On September 20th, 2013 over 20,000 people at Milwaukee's City Hall witnessed the unveiling of the MECCA Sculpture designed, fabricated and installed by Flux Design . The sculpture was the brainchild of Jeremy Sharowicz and Ben Koller, with the goal of temporarily re-envisioning the art piece in a new context.
The fully-painted, 40,000lb. portable floor was temporarily converted into an interactive, modular sculpture exhibit utilizing forty-five of the two hundred and forty 4' x 8' panels. Creating a multi-sensory experience through form, function and human interaction the MECCA Sculpture provoked the observer to contemplate WHY? public art is vital to defining the cultural identity of a city and the importance it plays on inspiring the individual citizen. Ben Koller stated:
"If we change the way we see art, the art we see will change us."
